Prepare to Get Offended

I’m sick of people being offended by everything. You can’t use foul language, you can’t talk about sex, you can’t breastfeed in public, you can’t talk about religion, etc. all because SOMEBODY might get offended. Here’s a newsflash, people: If you’re alive, you’re going to be offended by things. Just get the fuck over it!
Please don’t think I’m referring to insults, direct attacks, inappropriate actions, racism, sexism, etc. This is not about political correctness. This is about people demanding to never feel a little uncomfortable.
The truth is that we are all in charge of our own feelings. If something offends you even though it has nothing in the slightest to do with you, e.g. seeing a woman breastfeed her child in public, then that is not her problem, it is yours! You are the one who has the negative feelings and you are the one who has to deal with them.
Don’t think that because of your own discomfort about something that things need to change to make you more comfortable. That’s not how the world works! And while there are many human rights protected by various laws and regulations, a personal right to remain unoffended is not one of them. Do you know why? Because there are people who are offended by every single thing under the sun- skinny people, fat people, blonde people, dark haired people, body hair, perfume, make-up, clothing styles, … The list is endless.
Therefore, the only thing to do is to put on your big girl/boy panties and GET OVER IT! If you don’t like looking at something, don’t look. If you don’t like smelling something, leave the room. It is nobody else’s responsibility but your own to ensure your comfort. Maybe if you educate yourself on things that make you uncomfortable you could lessen your own negative feelings.
I, for one, am done with it. If my blog offends you, don’t read it. If my words make you feel uncomfortable, you might want to look inside yourself to see why that is the case. And if you don’t want to see me nursing my child, go look somewhere else! While there is no law to protect you, there are plenty of laws to protect me and my nursing child. After all, eating is a basic human right. Spending your life in a state of never feeling offended is not.

  3. Your blog has never offended me.

That said, my husband were kinda talking about a similar subject lats night. We were discussing TV and internet and all the offensive programming, media, and marketing. 30 years ago, if my father had turned on the TV and saw what we see, he would have promptly unplugged our TV set, pulled it to the curb, and demolished it with a baseball bat. Have you heard of the boiling frog effect? Our culture is experiencing this right now. (GOSH I am sounding old). Between vampire sex, Khloe and Lamar's foreplay pistachio commercial, and the countless ads for skimpy undergarments and erectile dysfunction, there's a lot of offensive stuff on TV. And the internet. And on the radio. The scary thing is... if I feel offended now by what I see, I am scared of what I will see in 30 years.

OK, your blog may have NOT been referencing any of that, but I am wearing my big-girl panties and cannot stand turning my TV on anymore. I'm not exactly "over it"... at all, really.

By the way, I am always welcome to photos of nursing children. I would rather see a kid sucking on a boob than a capri sun.

  4. I've been having a problem offending my family and my husbands friends lol!!! I'm not one to delete either unless I have said something horrid and that really doesn't happen but once a year.

My husbands best friend is actually cutting their friendship off because i wrote a list of things that make me nauseated (bc i'm pregnant) and in the list I said "dipping makes me turn green"

He was dipping in front of me that week and was SO offended by that one sentence. What's up with that? I didn't call him fat or anything, I simply let it be known that brown spit in a water bottle makes me wanna barf. I think the party foul is on him.

    1. And you're surprised they don't enjoy your company? You think the problem is with them? Wow. No one owes you their tolerance od your unpleasant behavior; get over it; you sound OFFFENDED that they don't want to put up with you. Hmmm.

  5. yeah right. people just tend to say that they have been offended by the act of others. maybe what they should be doing is to open up their minds and starting thinking that they are not the only people living on this world.

  6. Actually, good manners are what ease relationships between human beings in society. I feel having consideration for others is a good thing. Feeling you have the right to inflict ugly language, your thong and ass crack, your private body parts, etc on others and expect then to 'get over it', is no different than belching or farting at a public dinner and claiming it's a human function so get over it. The world DOESN"T work that way; only in the minds of self entitled, self absorbed people who think no one else matters but them.
